A bachelor’s degree is required for nearly all professional occupations in the industry. Private school teachers do not need a state license; however, a subject bachelor’s degree for secondary school, or education degree for elementary school, is usually required.

  • BEd, Elementary Education Teacher candidates are members of a statewide cohort group. Courses are offered through hybrid web-based instruction with occasional face-to-face weekend meetings. Contact an Advisor | More Info
  • MEd, Education A cohort-based program that requires two years of part time coursework and research to complete. The M.Ed. is designed for licensed teachers throughout the state and in select areas of the countries of the Pacific Rim. Contact an Advisor | More Info

 

  • MEd, Teaching This program is a two-year, field-based program designed for those living on neighbor islands who are interested in pursuing careers in elementary or secondary teaching and have already earned baccalaureate degrees in fields other than education. Contact an Advisor | More Info

 

  • MEd, Early Childhood Education The program is designed for professional development and leadership for professionals in programs serving children (infant-5 years) and their families. Contact an Advisor | More Info

 

  • MEd, Curriculum Studies, Middle & Secondary Level Emphasis This program equips teachers to fill a variety of teaching and resource roles at an advanced level. Students may attend part-time, and the average completion time is just over two years. Contact an Advisor | More Info

  • MEd, Special Education The program is designed for those who are already licensed in special education and wish to pursue a master’s degree, or desire a master’s degree without teacher licensure, such as those working in non-classroom-based services/settings. Contact an Advisor | More Info

  • MA, Music Education The Master of Arts-Music Education degree is intended for those individuals who have attained a BEd or comparable degree and are currently teaching in the public or private school. Contact an Advisor | More Info
  • Post-Bacc Certificate in Secondary Education The “Statewide” program is available in the content areas of Math, Science, English and Social Studies, and is offered in an online/hybrid format with fieldwork requirements conducted on the candidate’s respective island.   • Post-Bacc Certificate in Special Education The certificate is offered statewide to those with a Bachelor’s degree in any field and desiring a license in special education.   • Kahuawaiola Indigenous Teacher Education The mission of Kahuawaiola is to prepare Mauli Ola Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian identity nurturing) teachers of the highest quality who are grounded in Hawaiian language and culture to serve in Hawaiian language medium schools, in Hawaiian language and culture programs in English medium schools, and in schools serving students with a strong Hawaiian cultural background.
